EASY vegan fudge….
This fudge is decadent. It’s rich. It melts in your mouth. Need I say more? And it’s only 5 ingredients (not counting the nuts because I know some peope don’t like them…shame!)
Now, don’t get held up over the fact that coconut cream is used in this recipe. I know it only makes sense that it would taste ooey-gooey coconutty…but I swear it doesn’t. So if you don’t want your fudge tasting like a Mounds Bar, you are in luck. The richness of the chocolate blends perfectly into the coconut cream and you cannot even taste it.
We all can thank Brooke for such a simple recipe! Check out her original fudge here.

I just made the chocolate coconut vegan fudge. i used lilys dark chocolate chips. And used almond milk and it came out perfect. It was very delicious.
Creamy and dreamy.
Easiest fudge recipe I have ever seen and done. Thank you.

Luna
With all of the problems of not having it solidify enough, I was wondering if you could add maybe 2 Tablespoons of coconut oil to help it? I know that coconut oil will solidify when it’s cooled anyway. This sound simply divine. I will have to make some soon!
Cara
You definitely can Luna! However if you get straight up cream of coconut in a can, it shouldn’t be an issue unless: 1). It’s a bad can (it happens; I’ve had a problem with that but very seldom) or 2). It’s not 100% pure coconut cream. I say adding an extra scoop or two of coconut oil couldn’t hurt π Good luck! xo
John
This was DELICIOUS, but very soft – should the fudgy mixture be cooked longer if it ends up being too soft?
ines
does the can of coconut cream need to be chilled? i’m confused, since it boils anyway.
Kerstin LaCross
No, the recipe doesn’t say it has to be chilled before boiled.
Katie
These look absolutely amazing I will have to give them a go! Another excuse for a chocolate fix and it has been years since I had some fudge! Thank you!
Jenn
Hi! I made these last night and they are very delicious but a tad smooshy. I omitted nuts but used the exact same trader hoes ingredients. I did shake my cream first. Do you think that is my problem? Should I not shake the can? I want to make these for my sons birthday party but they aren’t hard enough to do that. Help please!!
Kerstin
Did you buy coconut milk or coconut cream? If you got coconut milk then shaking would definitely make a difference. But if you got coconut cream… I don’t know!
Mine ended up more like frosting and were pretty messy, although I ate them all anyways.
Cara
Hi Jenn! Sorry to hear that they didn’t get firm. Truth be told, the coconut cream (not milk) should pretty much completely harden so even if you did shake it wouldn’t matter. I typically buy several cans from TJ’s and once I get home I throw them into the fridge so when I need them they are already set. The coconut cream has less water than the coconut milk so the chilling process allows for it to really set and become firm. Try giving the chilling process for the coconut cream in the can and/or the fudge setting in the fridge a little more time then you originally did. Hope that helps! xo

you use disallowed a designer to make the style? Superb vocation! cefbakbekgbe
Giovanna
Hi Cara, I made this for Christmas dinner and took it to my mother’s. Well, it was simply divine!!! Better than any fudge I have ever had. Even if I could have gluten and dairy, I would make this fudge instead. Thank you!!! Giovanna
Sophie
I made your delectable fudge & loved it so much,…It is rich indeed but just stunning! xxx
Justine
It says “Store covered in fridge” I wanted to make this and mail it to a friend, would it be okay to ship?
Lee
Hi,
I seem to be the only person this didn’t work for. It didn’t set and its been in the fridge over night.
It tastes divine, but not set enough.
Was trying to think of how I could rescue it, maybe adding 1/4 cup sugar and 1/4 cup nut butter to it?
Would really hate to waste a batch
Kerstin LaCross
Did you use coconut cream or coconut milk? That’s the only thing I could think of that could cause it to not set. If you used coconut milk (without doing the fridge trick) there’s probably too much water in it. Not sure how you could get it to set, but maybe try freezing it? Making Popsicles/fudgecicles out of it?
Ivy
The only coconut creams I have ever seen come in a box (Whole Foods Market, Publix, etc.) I guess I could use that or try just chilling the can of coconut milk. I can’t wait to try this. Most vegan fudge recipes seem a lot more complicated. Thanks!
Cara
Hi Ivy, I have never seen the boxed coconut cream–I will have to check that out! I am thinking that it’s the same thing so it will do just fine. Here is a link for the one I got: http://www.amazon.com/Trader-Joes-Coconut-Cream-Cans/dp/B00A6BHDOE/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1381249504&sr=8-5&keywords=coconut+cream
I know that another person tried to do the chilled coconut milk and it did not firm up like fudge does… Good luck!
Katie @ Produce on Parade
Nom, nom, nom…this looks utterly amazing. I must try this!
Jess
I think I’ve pinned this twice already, but I want to pin it again. No, I want to actually make it this time!!!
Hayley
Is it possible to use cacao nibs instead of dairy free chips?
Cara
Hi Hayley. Unfortunately it is not possible. Cacao nibs do not melt like the chocolate chips do, nor do they give the same texture. Sorry!
Hayley
Thanks for replying…
Kerstin
Making this right now D: It’s in my fridge cooling! My non-vegan baker friend is demanding to know how it turns out since it doesn’t use peanut butter or dairy butter (solidifiers) and since it doesn’t require that ‘mix until a softball’ stage.
ay
I’ll try this, and there are (expensive) non-milk chocolate bars out there–is the Trader Joe’s definitely milk-free? (They do some great vegan items; but one of their soy cheeses does contain whey or casein, so vegan-buyers beware.)
Also wondering: what does one need to substitute for chocolate, if anything, to make a simple, non-choc, buttery fudge?
Thanks.
Rachel
What can I use to replace the coconut cream? I can’t find any in the stores and I really want to make this π
Brooke
Trader Joe’s started carrying coconut cream. It’s the only place I’ve seen it:)
Britt
I am definitely going to try this! I’ll let you know how to goes π

I have a question about the “non-dairy milk”. Would almond milk work? I don’t care for soy milk, so I’m not sure what works best.
Cara
Yes it does work! I actually used almond milk and it was perfect π
Elaine Lombardi Scudds
my 10 year old daughter is a fudge-aholic so I am making this for her to have as a special treat for Christmas day….I will let you know what she thinks!!!!!!! It looks delicious!!!
Rebecca W.
Fudge is one of my favorite desserts from my childhood! I haven’t recreated it in vegan form to my satisfaction yet. I’ll try this recipe. It looks great!
Siann Yeats
I only have white (vegan) chocolate, do you think that would work?
Cara
You could always try…and if you are a fan of white chocolate fudge, I say go for it. I do know that white vegan chocolate melts a little differently than say, Enjoy Life semi-sweet chocolate chips, so that might be tricky, but definitely test it out if you are feeling experimental π
Stephanie
Thank you for this fabulous recipe! I made this for the first time last night! I followed the recipe exactly, with one wee change and the fudge turned out beautifully! I didn’t have a can of coconut cream handy, but I did have a can of full fat coconut milk. So I kept it in the fridge overnight and the milk turned itself into a heavy, thick cream! I scooped it out and used it for the fudge.. PERFECT AND SOOOO YUMMY! π
goodstorysarah
I can’t wait to try this!…maybe this weekend! I haven’t seen cans of coconut cream, but do you know if you can do the coconut milk in the fridge trick to get the coconut cream?
Penny
Make sure your chocolate is also dairy free. Regular semi sweet choc chips have dairy solids in them.
Cara
Thank you Penny! I forgot to change that from Brooke’s original recipe. I just corrected it π
JB
wow. this is amazing. I just made it. so good. thank you.
Cara
YAY!! I am soooo happy to hear that you liked it, JB. xo
kirstenskitchen
OMG! I am making these this week for the holidays ( if they last that long )!! FOR SURE. too good to be true. Thanks π
Cara
You are so welcome! xo
Somer
Voted with the LOVE button. Why isn’t there a love button for the fudge too? xx
Cara
Where’s YOUR love button? π
Somer
It’s a secret…..
Lizzie
And I just realized that it’s snowing on your page! IT’S SNOWING!!!!
Lizzie
Just clicked your love button, baby. ;p
And Laurel up there has my number with the Amaretto idea…think I’m gonna be giving this a try tonight with that little addition!
Cara
Hopefully you haven’d made it yet because I totally made a mistake on the measurements. Don’t know what I was thinking… But I fixed it now so it should be okay π And yes!!! SNOW. xo
sandra
Any idea roughly how much 2c of choc is? I shall be buying bars and wonder if it would be a 100g bar for example. Is coconut cream the one you can get in cartons that is so solid its like candle wax or could you use the solid part from a can of coconut milk once refrigerated. Thanks.
Cara
Hi Sandra! I really wish I could help you out with the cups to grams measurements but I’m afraid I don’t know π I will say that the chocolate bar I used is a total of about 18 oz and I used almost half of it. Does that help? And coconut cream is like the candle wax description you used (I love that!)–it comes in a can already solid. Best of luck! xo
sandra
Thank you. I didn’t buy enough today then. Luckily I am not making them until wednesday, so will buy extra chocolate tomorrow. Thanks for all the wonderful recipes and I did click the love button! x
Karen
Carla where do you find coconut cream at? Thanks.
Karen
Ooops…misspelled your name Cara….I have a friend named Carla. Sorry!
Cara
Haha! No worries at all Karen. I actually found coconut cream at Trader Joes. I have seen it at Ralphs too. Hopefully this helps. Good luck in your coconut cream hunt π xo
Karen
Thank you….I already shop there! : )
Diane
One cup of chocolate weighs 6 ounces or 170 grams, according to the King Arthur Flour website. Hope this isn’t too late to help.
Caitlin
wow, this does look easy! fudge can be a pain in the booty to make. definitely have to try this one out π and yay for being nominated for the friendsEATtop blogger!
Cara
Thank you my most lovely friend! xo
Carrie Doe
Thank you sooooo much!!! It really seems easy& fast π
Cara
You are so welcome, Carrie. Thanks for the comment!
Suzanne @Roll With It
This looks amazing. It reminds me of my childhood. My Grandmother would make fudge growing up on raining days at the cottage. She would never tell anyone the recipe, until one day I convinced her to teach me. To this day I can’t remember the proportions but I do remember it was full of brown sugar, corn syrup and butter. Now I can use this as a more cleaned up version! I love it! xo
Cara
I am loving the visual of rainy days at a cottage, eating fudge π xo
Brooke (Crackers on the Couch)
Coconut cream in this is INSPIRED, my dear! I was wondering what you’d use to sub for the condensed milk! This looks delicious!!
Cara
I went to TJs, hoping to get coconut MILK and all they had was cream so I thought, heck, this could work! Experimentation successful π I was shcked that the first attempt worked, actually… Apparently I have learned a thing or 2 in the past year from doing this, ha! xo
Brooke (Crackers on the Couch)
I saw some of that the last time I was at TJ’s, too and didn’t know what to do with it other than vegan whipped cream. Which is good. But not as good as fudge!
Your Biggest Fan!
Hold the phone! I was THE VERY FIRST to love you – duh! Tried the love button and couldn’t get it to work. You’ll have to vote on my behalf. I figure this note from your mom makes it official hee! hee! Love the fudge BTW and yes, with lots of nuts. π
XOXOXOX
Cara
You are the cutest mother in the world, lady! Thank you for the love–it has not been amiss in this brain of mine that you were the first to love me π xo
Delta
of course I love you, who doesn’t! π I also am wondering about the coconut cream. Am I gonna have to buy this like I bought the cacao butter lol
Cara
hahaha! I think of you everytime I see that bag of cacao butter in my pantry π I haven’t gotten around to using it since that white chocolate episode–me thinks I overdid it over the course of 2 days. ha. And yes, you have to buy a can of coconut cream now–it’s only fair. But at least it only cost $1 π
Delta
then I guess I’ll need to buy 3 or 4 lol π that is IF I can find it here
Cara
Order online! Order online!
xo
Laurel
Make Bryanna’s vegan butter spread with the cacao butter. http://vegan.com/recipes/bryanna-clark-grogan/bryannas-vegan-butter/
Cara
Is there a difference between cacao butter and cocoa butter?
Delta
Is there any other way beside online ordering? not usually for me lol hence the 2 bags. However, I just happened to be going to the big city tomorrow so will be looking for it. I dont want to go crazy and get a case of it just yet since Im not sure how long it will last and how often I will use it. Do you have other recipes that use it?
Laurel
Yeah, American’s don’t know how to spell. π
Sarina @ Earthgiven Kitchen
Oh yum! I love chocolate, coconut and walnuts — who doesn’t?! Thanks for the recipe.
Cara
You are absolutely correct–who DOESN’T love the trifecta of goodness??? xo. Thank you for the comment, Sarina.
amethystjean
What kind of cocount cream? All I have is coconut milk (canned) and whenever I’ve seen recipes requiring coconut cream they have said to refrigerate and scoop of the top portion.
Cara
Sorry about the confusion! I meant to say just a regular ol’ can of coconut cream. It’s in solid form as opposed to coconut milk in liquid form and comes as is when you buy it π Hope that helps. Let me know if I am still not making any sense… xo
mmmarzipan
Clicked “love” (because it’s true!). Also loving the look of this fudge! Must try!!! π
Cara
Thank you, friend. You are so wonderful! xo
Emily von Euw
There is so much right with this, and nothing wrong. x
Cara
I will eat to that π Thank you for the comment, Emily.
Herbivore Triathlete
I’ve been wondering how to make a vegan fudge! Thanks Cara, all your recipes are great and make me realize that even though I don’t consume any animal products, I don’t need to miss out.
Cara
What a sweet comment, thank you so much Herbivore Triathlete π It’s all my pleasure to help out… xo
Laurel
O.K. I “loved” you. I shared the link. I made this stuff last year with cherries and Amaretto. Get off my case already. I really do <3 <3 you because you're so adorable. Plus, I DID NOT steal that recipe from Leanne I'd done it my own self with yogurt BEFORE I saw it and shared it with you. Leanne just made it look all purdy and easy and stuff. π
Laurel
Reply to self: but it’s not working!
Cara
Girl you don’t have to tell me that you came up with that recipe first–that is a totally DUH given. You are the master at baking and anything genius. Thank you for the “love”–sorry the button isn’t working. I have given up on it myself because they want you to sign up to FriendsEat. Silly me, I thought this was to shout-out bloggers but apparently not… ha!
Susan
I just officially “loved” you, although I have for quite some time. Your recipes are so delish. Thanks for all you do. You deserve this recognition!!
Cara
That is so incredibly kind of you, Susan. Thank you for your support–it means so much to me! xo
jaime @ sweet road
This is my favorite thing to make! It’s so simple and really hits the spot with the chocolate and good-for-you fats! I use coconut butter/coconut cream concentrate though, coconut cream has just a bit too much water content in it. What brand do you use?
Cara
Hi Jaime! Not sure what brand it is–I think it’s just Trader Joe’s brand actually. It worked out perfectly π
Oli
With what can I replace coconut cream- don`t have it ?
Cara
You can always try this recipe out as a non-dairy sub for condensed milk: http://www.wikihow.com/Make-Vegan-Condensed-Milk
The original fudge recipe that I used it from is here: http://crackersonthecouch.blogspot.com/2012/12/12-days-of-chistmas-treats-fudge.html and you can just easily replace the condensed milk for an equal measurement of the vegan kind. Does that make sense? Hope this helps…xo
michellini
Ok voted π this looks delicious
Im one of the no nuts people …don’t hate π
Cara
I will just secretly judge for NOT liking nuts….WHAT???! haha. To each his own, right? π
michellini
π well I like a few macadamia ….just not walnuts or pecans brazil ok most ..I seriously want to make this
Cara
I won’t hold it against you, I promise. You get a pass for liking macadamia nuts π
Sara
HOLY CRAP. I mean, yes please! *bookmarking this one*
Cara
haha, I will gladly accept HOLY CRAY, Sara π
moderngirlnutrition
Yum! I bet the coconut is an amazing addition:)
Cara
It adds such a richness but surprisingly omits any coconut flavor… xo!
Eva
I gave this to a few people for Christmas last year and they all loved it. :3 How long does this keep in the fridge, do you think? If I make some on Sunday night, will it still be good on Thursday (and beyond)? I suppose it will, with all that fat in it⦠right??
