Thanks so much to Cara for having me back here on Fork and Beans to share with you this recipe for these fun Caterpillar Fruit Kebabs with a honey lime dairy free dip. Food on a stick always seems to be a hit for kids, and this delicious kabob recipe brings a little fun to your spring or summer party or picnic.

So these silly little caterpillars actually started out just as kebabs. Can you imagine caterpillars wandering around without cute little eyes to peep up at you? It’s a travesty right, how could we skip the cutest part?

We were having a little backyard gathering. There really wasn’t a reach for it other than I think everyone was uber tired of the cold and wet spring we have had. So with a little bit of sunshine in the forecast, we were all hanging out in the backyard enjoying the cool spring breeze.
While I don’t always cook dairy free at home, I knew that there was both a vegan family and a child with a dairy allergy who were coming. So I made this fun party treat recipe as something we could all share together, and that I knew the kids would go bonkers for.
Start by breaking traditional kabob sticks in half. I find the long sticks meant for the grill are often too long for fruit. I tried once at a birthday party, and ended up with a whole cup full of fruit kabobs toppling over. Save yourself that mess, break’m in half!
Using a watermelon baller, make your watermelon and cantaloupe into nice round balls. This is a job I usually pass off the hubby as it’s a good “do you need any help.” task. Thread the melon onto the skewers, alternating colors. This is another good “do you need any help” task to pass off to a kitchen helper.

Meanwhile, zest one lime (it’s easier to zest before you cut the lime.) Stir the lime zest, juice from half the lime, and honey into the dairy free yogurt. I used a vanilla almond yogurt this time. If you use unsweetened yogurt, you may want to sweeten the dip to taste. Once mixed, keep your kids fingers out of the dip until the party, because it’s delicious!
Using a toothpick and a little bit of honey to stick them, attach candy eyes to the fruit kabobs. Admire your smiley handiwork!
