Full of probiotics, magnesium and acts as a great aid in digestion, apple cider vinegar has so many cleansing properties, especially for the gut. I especially love mixing it in with warm water and honey on the days I don’t have time to go all out and make this DIY concoction for a quick, straight-to-my-gut refresher. Seriously, is there anything apple cider vinegar can’t do?!
Coconut water is rich in vitamin B, minerals, and is actually very hydrating. I like to use it in this homemade Electrolyte Water because it is already slightly sweet without all the calories and I can use less honey. You don’t have to use coconut water if you don’t want, simply replace with filtered water.
Salt is actually a natural electrolyte so by adding a sprinkle of sea salt to this homemade Electrolyte Water you’re giving your body a boost of trace minerals and well, electrolytes. You can opt out on this if you want but really, the recipe only calls for a pinch for a slight salty kick.

PrintHomemade Electrolyte Water
- Prep Time: 3 mins
- Cook Time: 2 mins
- Total Time: 5 mins
- Yield: 2 large servings 1x
Ingredients
- 3/4 c. fresh citrus juice (I used 1 1/2 oranges, 1 lemon, and 1 lime)
- 1–2 Tbsp. honey (or use maple syrup)
- 2 Tbsp. raw, organic apple cider vinegar
- 3 c. coconut water
- pinch of unrefined sea salt
- 2 tsp. chia seeds
Instructions
- Add the citrus juice and honey into a small pan over low heat to gently melt the honey. Remove from heat.
- Add the remaining ingredients and allow to sit for a few minutes until chia seeds have expanded.
- Place in a big jar or 2 separate ones. Add citrus slices into the drink (optional).
- If you want to drink immediately, add ice cubes. If not, allow to fully chill in fridge.
- When ready to consume, shake well and enjoy.
More Electrolyte Water recipes notes:
- Replace the honey with maple syrup if you are vegan.
- You don’t have to add the chia seeds. For me personally, I love chewing my drinks. Sounds weird, I know, but I love different textures in my food and beverages so I like to pour them in at the end. By chewing, it helps me slow down in drinking since I tend to down my liquids rather quickly. Plus, it’s been said that chia seeds are full of antioxidants so maybe it couldn’t hurt.

Thanks for sharing. I like the twist on it with Chia seeds and ACV. I’m due in early May and I have been looking at labor aide recipes…was excited to see this in my inbox. I may experiment with freezing it with small ice cube trays.

I love everything apple cider vinegar does for the body, especially the gut! It really is such a great addition. And the chia seeds…crunch crunch 😉 Good luck in May, Mea! I love the idea of freezing this into ice cubes <3
