Ever have one of those friends with whom you are convinced that you have known in a past life? That is exactly how I feel about Meg from Walking The Labyrinth . It was an instant connection between me and her, not to mention the moment I saw pictures of her girls (doggies), it was complete love. I share her utter and total love for Pit Bulls and through Meg (and Analaigh and Rosie), I continue to learn so much more about this beautiful breed. She is talented, soulful, honest, and has one of the most tender hearts out there–a real gem of a find and I dare you not to smile as you look at these pictures.
I am so excited to be sharing the same blog space as Cara. She is fabulous beyond words. She inspires me in the kitchen, she encourages me in life, and is a truly amazing friend. When she first asked me to occupy a spot in her “incredibly talented people you just gotta meet” feature I felt woefully under qualified (still do). I’m just a chemist who tinkers with pots and pans occasionally and sometimes it works out and most times it does not…
But I turned to my other inspiration: my girls…
…and there was Rosiebear reminding me,

THEY WERE THE DELICIOUSEST THINGS EVER! ALMOST AS DELICIOUS AS THIS ONE PAIR OF SLIPPERS THAT ANALAIGH AND I ATE THAT TIME WHEN YOU LEFT US FOR A MILLIONTY HOURS.”
Anyone who has spent any time with me since I brought my first baby home early in 2010 will tell you of my (sometimes concerning) obsession with my dogs. It’s not untrue. They are mine and I am theirs. I am responsible for their health and well-being and I take my responsibility seriously. So when you ask me how my weekend was, be prepared to hear about the hike the girls and I took or how we spent the day swimming in the creek.
Seein’ as how it’s July and hot as (tennis) balls, I decided it was high time to learn me how to make some pup-friendly ice cream. I made a list of doggie-dos and don’ts and off we went. Rose was as helpful as always while Analaigh hid under the table far away from the angry sound of the food processor.
So if you are looking for a quick, easy, happy, healthy, inexpensive way to provide a cool treat for your fur babies, my girls and I are only too happy to share.
ICEE PUPS
Wha’cha do:
Sweet Potato Chip:
- 2 frozen bananas
- 1 baked sweet potato, peeled
- 1/2 cup carob chips
- 2 tbsp peanut butter
- in blender or food processor, peel and blend frozen bananas until smooth;
- add sweet potatoe and blend until smooth;
- add carob chips and pulse until uniformly distributed;
- pour into container and freeze.
Cookie Dough Pumpkin:
- 2 frozen bananas
- 1 15oz can pumpkin puree
- 1/2 cup old-fashioned rolled oats (GLUE-FREE)
- 4 tbsp peanut butter
- 2 tbsp carob chips
- in a bowl mix carob chips and peanut butter;
- in a separate bowl coat balls of peanut butter mixture (small like cookie doughs) with
oats and shape; - in blender or food processor, peel and blend frozen bananas until smooth;
- add pumpkin puree and blend until smooth;
- by hand, fold in cookie dough balls;
- pour into container and freeze.
Experimenting for my girls is always rewarding because no matter what the catastrophe or success at least I know *someone(s)* will enjoy it…like that time I thought I’d try substituting carob powder for cocoa powder in my brownie recipe that Rose is constantly reminding me about…
So…er…uhm…bon(e) appetit!
What precious pups! I’m a huge doggie fan myself and have my little guy Tank, who loves to fly with us and especially loves a long hike. He misses his big bro however. Our big boy, an Airedale we called Elwood, passed last year. I must say it still brings tears to my eyes when I think of him. Seriously the best dog we ever had. He was a total lovey. 🙁 can’t wait to make these treats for Tank! He’s a chow hound for sure.

I love your girls! I have the biggest soft-spot for pit bulls, and well, all dogs really. But especially pit bulls. I love meeting someone who is as close to their fur babies as I am to mine. I swear, Samantha knows me better than most human beings do.

OMG.. furryy babbbiiieeeesss!! it cannot get any cuter than this on a friday.. the treats sound amazing! my vegan pup likes anything frozen, he loves to nibble on frozen things. though he spoils his long beard with the leftovers. i need a bib for him.:)
Aw, poor baby losing food in his beard! My Analaigh loves the frozen things. She’ll individually pick out the ice cubes from her water and once she has a pile she’ll nosh away.
YES! A girl after my own heart. I am a lover of all bully breeds and I am also a lover of spoiling the sh*t out of your dogs! Our dog is on a gluten-free diet and she eats a fully raw meat food, I love making her treats and ice creams, etc – since I know what is in what I am giving to her. I cannot wait to try these. Our little Seri loves coconut oil added to her treats and it’s so great for her ski, too!
