One of THE highlights in my childhood was eating pancakes.
Not just any kind of pancake, mind you,
but my name spelled out with pancake batter.
Nothing tickled me more (unless you were touching my feet, really) than seeing
C-A-R-A
as my breakfast!
(Thanks again, Perry!)
Because pancakes delight me so, what better way to celebrate
with pancakes dedicated to Halloween?!
And who doesn’t love a tasty, flattened, pan-cooked bread???
I will partake in no conversation with anyone who doesn’t like pancakes.
That is illegal.
I mean, CAKE is in the word people!!!
**So everyone pull out your pans.
Whip up some pancake batter (recipe at the bottom).
Get out that food coloring.
Prepare your squeeze bottles.
Because we are about to get some serious pancake crazy here!**
To create pancake pumpkins:
That pancake pumpkin looks too happy, if you ask me. It’s as if he knows something that I don’t.
I don’t like being left in the dark with information…
Spill your secrets, man!
But he wouldn’t…
So I drowned him with agave syrup:
(Wow, I just got all GodFather on this post, didn’t I?)…
To create pancake ghosts:
After you have laboriously created your pancakes,
it’s time to EAT!
Or take funny pictures of them…
Or you can be a total NERD like me and create an entire Halloween scene on your plate.
Sometimes I’m embarrassed that this kind of stuff makes me happy.
What happened to world peace?
Fighting global hunger?
Nope, pancakes in shape of whatever I want does it for me!
Halloween Pancake Batter Recipe
INGREDIENTS:
- 1 1/4 c. GF All-Purpose blend of your choice
- 1 tsp xanthan gum
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp agave syrup
- 2 Tbs coconut oil, melted
- 1 1/2 c. hemp milk (or other non-dairy milk of choice)
- food coloring
DIRECTIONS:
- Blend all ingredients together.
- Place batter in separate squeeze bottles. Depending on what shapes you want to make, add food coloring of choice to the bottle and stir with a knife.
- Making sure the pan is hot enough, start squeezing the batter into a shape of what you want to create. Go fast because A). It gets hot on your fingers; and B). You want to make sure it cooks/browns at the same time.
- Enjoy your Halloween-theme breakfast!
Happy Hauntings!
Veganosaurus
That’s some amazing pancake art!! This is the kind of stuff that will cause world peace! I mean, if everyone’s eating cutely shaped, super fun food all the time, the whole world’s gonna be one big happy place! π
Cara
Right? RIGHT?? Finally someone who understands me. I could not have said it better myself!!! xo

Praise you, Pancakes! π
Kristen
I love a girl who knows how to teach a pancake a lesson. π
Cara
And I love any girl who loves a girl who teaches a pancake lesson, myself π hehe. Thank you Kristen!
Mandee
Eeee! I absolutely adore your pumpkin pancakes!
Cara
Thank you Mandee! My favorite is the one with the look of horror on his face. He makes me chuckle every time I see him…
Amey
Oh my, you are blowing my mind! *imagines world of pancake possibilities* my friend cold and sleepy told me about your blog and I LOVE it so much!
Cara
I LOVE cold and sleepy–isn’t she awesome??! So happy you found a comfortable spot here–I really am! I cannot wait to take over the pancake world with you π
Jan
i hope i am rich someday so i can hire you as my personal live-in chef goddess.
Cara
Done and done! I would LOVE that, especially if you call me by “goddess” π
Celine
so awesome! I suck at making pretty pancakes, so you’re pretty much my shiny new hero.
Cara
Oh no, Celine, I suck too–don’t let the squeeze bottle fool you! Somehow it helps people like us because I’m usually not allowed to make the pancakes in my house π
Isobelle
You are so awesome! I really can’t believe how cool all of these Halloween food ideas are that you keep posting. I love them!
Cara
Thank you Isobelle! That is so nice of you to say–you flattery is absolutely welcomed over here π ha.
Sarah
The scared pumpkin is the best! Kids always remember fun stuff like this.
Cara
They really do, hence my fav childhood memories are linked back to pancakes! I’m glad you liked the scared one too–he was my personal favorite. Makes me chuckle every time…
Jojo
You are SO awesome!
Cara
Oh goodness, who needs therapy when I get my share’s worth of self-esteem here! π Thanks so much for thinking so, Jojo.
Angela @ Vegangela.com
So creative. Love!
Cara
Thank you for thinking so, Angela π Loving your muffin recipe you just posted!
Vanessa

Cara
I think “what the what?” is my new favorite phrase! ha
Jenny
Okay, so pancake batter in a squeeze bottle. Have NOT tried that!!! Thanks for the idea.
Cara
You got it! That’s what I’m here for π
naturalnoshing
You are ADORABLE and SO CREATIVE! I love these and I love that they are something I can eat too π I would totally make a Halloween scene on my plate as well – I want to give YOU a hug! Keep rockin’ the posts, you are too cute!
Cara
Looks like we have started the Cara-and-Nora-mutual-adoration club π I want to give YOU a hug–I just so love your blog! And a million thank you’s for your support over here and your kind words. xoxo
Kathy Hester (geekypoet)
I want you to know how disappointed I was when i came into work and you hadn’t placed a plate of haunted house pancakes on my desk. Now I have to make pancakes for dinner tonight or something crazy like that!
: )
Cara
*hanging head down in shame* I have failed you Kathy. I will make it up to you, somehow! π
GiGi Anber
Truly flap “jacks”. You happily surprised me again! Terrific. Hey Cara, gave you a shoutout over at my blog today. Woohoo!
Cara
HA! You and your clever play on words! Where were you when I was writing this post??? And THANK YOU for the shout out–you are soooo sweet! xo
Brooke
Ka-yoooot! π I love the ghosts! My kids will be all over this. H’ween morning, here I come! π
Cara
Pictures! Pictures! I want pictures when you do them!!!
coldandsleepy
Ha… I love them! So cute! I admire the spatula skills you must have to get these flipped without tearing or otherwise maiming them. And I think I need to invest in a squeezy bottle STAT.
Cara
You know what, I am HORRIBLE with pancakes (I always make my boyfriend flip them, or really, he insists he makes them) but these were really easy for me. So if I did okay with it, ANYONE can π I think by the time you finish coloring in the pancake, it’s enough time for it to cook on the bottom side so you are safe. And yes! Buy that bottle and get squeezing!
Ashlae W.
Ok, these made me laugh out loud! And I’m realizing that I really should have invested in the pancake pen that I saw at William’s Sonoma last week. I wasn’t aware that you could do so. many. fun things with it.
Cara
Looks like someone is going back to the mall this morning… π
Jeni Treehugger
How cool are these?? Γber cool, that’s how.
And you totally went all Godfather on this post – death by syrup drowning – the poor pancakes never stood a chance.
π
Cara
Sometimes you have to make an example out of pancakes, Jeni. You know, to show the “others” what could happen when you are disobedient. Now, “make me an offer…”
Karena
Laughed out loud at this post! Now I totally need to get myself some squeeze bottles so I can wow my kids. And myself π Great, fun post!
Cara
Take pics of your art, if you do make them! We can start a pancake collage. Glad that you like the post, Karena xoxo
Clare
That is incredible pancake art. I wonder if my hand is steady enough for this…
Cara
Pancake batter is very forgiving even if you don’t have a steady hand! Try it–you just might be surprised by yourself π
Clare
Yeah I tried it with a piping bag. Not the same. Going to go get me a squeeze bottle now.
Cara
I tried a cookie cutter and that didn’t work either π Good luck, Clare!
